What is a macromolecular Complex? Shades of Meaning across Cellular, Systems, and Structural Biology

Amsterdam
October 1-2 2009

The meeting ?What is a macromolecular Complex? Shades of Meaning across Cellular, Systems, and Structural Biology? was organized by the Division of Molecular Carcinogenesis at NKI, The Netherlands Cancer Institute, The Netherlands. The workshop is part of the training and dissemination activities of the 3D repertoire and TEACH-SG/Spine2Complexes projects. Scientific and organizing committee was composed of Stephen Cusack (Grenoble), Andrea Musacchio (Milan), Anastassis Perrakis (Amsterdam) and Carlo Petosa (Grenoble)

3D Repertoire is an Integrated Project (IP) funded by the European Commission under Framework 6 (http://www.3drepertoire.org). The project started in February 2005 with 54 month duration and it brings together scientists from eighteen institutions, including three private companies. The main goal of 3D Repertoire is to solve the structures of all amenable protein complexes from the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae at the best feasible resolution, by electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography, and in silico methods.

This workshop aims to discuss problems commonly encountered by structural biologists when working with macromolecules inferred to form a complex from functional data (e.g., yeast two hybrid assays, co-IP, TAP-tagging, network analysis). This workshop brings together macromolecular, cellular, systems and structural biologists to share knowledge and experience.
